October 1, 2023 :: Evening Prayer
Seventeenth Sunday after Trinity
Here beginneth the 18th chapter of Ezekiel.
Lord came unto me again, saying,The word of the
What mean ye, that ye use this proverb concerning the land of Israel, saying, The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children's teeth are set on edge?
God, ye shall not have any more to use this proverb in Israel.I live, saith the Lord
Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.
But if a man be just, and do that which is lawful and right,
hath not eaten upon the mountains, neither hath lifted up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, neither hath defiled his neighbour's wife, neither hath come near to a menstruous woman,
And hath not oppressed any, hath restored to the debtor his pledge, hath spoiled none by violence, hath given his bread to the hungry, and hath covered the naked with a garment;
He hath not given forth upon usury, neither hath taken any increase, hath withdrawn his hand from iniquity, hath executed true judgment between man and man,
God.Hath walked in my statutes, and hath kept my judgments, to deal truly; he just, he shall surely live, saith the Lord
If he beget a son a robber, a shedder of blood, and doeth the like to one of these ,
And that doeth not any of those , but even hath eaten upon the mountains, and defiled his neighbour's wife,
Hath oppressed the poor and needy, hath spoiled by violence, hath not restored the pledge, and hath lifted up his eyes to the idols, hath committed abomination,
Hath given forth upon usury, and hath taken increase: shall he then live? he shall not live: he hath done all these abominations; he shall surely die; his blood shall be upon him.
Now, lo, he beget a son, that seeth all his father's sins which he hath done, and considereth, and doeth not such like,
hath not eaten upon the mountains, neither hath lifted up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, hath not defiled his neighbour's wife,
Neither hath oppressed any, hath not withholden the pledge, neither hath spoiled by violence, hath given his bread to the hungry, and hath covered the naked with a garment,
hath taken off his hand from the poor, hath not received usury nor increase, hath executed my judgments, hath walked in my statutes; he shall not die for the iniquity of his father, he shall surely live.
his father, because he cruelly oppressed, spoiled his brother by violence, and did which not good among his people, lo, even he shall die in his iniquity.
Yet say ye, Why? doth not the son bear the iniquity of the father? When the son hath done that which is lawful and right, hath kept all my statutes, and hath done them, he shall surely live.
The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.
But if the wicked will turn from all his sins that he hath committed, and keep all my statutes, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall surely live, he shall not die.
All his transgressions that he hath committed, they shall not be mentioned unto him: in his righteousness that he hath done he shall live.
God: not that he should return from his ways, and live?Have I any pleasure at all that the wicked should die? saith the Lord
But when the righteous turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, doeth according to all the abominations that the wicked doeth, shall he live? All his righteousness that he hath done shall not be mentioned: in his trespass that he hath trespassed, and in his sin that he hath sinned, in them shall he die.
Yet ye say, The way of the Lord is not equal. Hear now, O house of Israel; Is not my way equal? are not your ways unequal?
When a righteous turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and dieth in them; for his iniquity that he hath done shall he die.
Again, when the wicked turneth away from his wickedness that he hath committed, and doeth that which is lawful and right, he shall save his soul alive.
Because he considereth, and turneth away from all his transgressions that he hath committed, he shall surely live, he shall not die.
Yet saith the house of Israel, The way of the Lord is not equal. O house of Israel, are not my ways equal? are not your ways unequal?
God. Repent, and turn from all your transgressions; so iniquity shall not be your ruin. Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, every one according to his ways, saith the Lord
Cast away from you all your transgressions, whereby ye have transgressed; and make you a new heart and a new spirit: for why will ye die, O house of Israel?
God: wherefore turn , and live ye.For I have no pleasure in the death of him that dieth, saith the Lord
Here endeth the first lesson.
Here beginneth the 16th chapter of 1 Corinthians.
Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given order to the churches of Galatia, even so do ye.
Upon the first of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come.
And when I come, whomsoever ye shall approve by letters, them will I send to bring your liberality unto Jerusalem.
And if it be meet that I go also, they shall go with me.
Now I will come unto you, when I shall pass through Macedonia: for I do pass through Macedonia.
And it may be that I will abide, yea, and winter with you, that ye may bring me on my journey whithersoever I go.
For I will not see you now by the way; but I trust to tarry a while with you, if the Lord permit.
But I will tarry at Ephesus until Pentecost.
For a great door and effectual is opened unto me, and many adversaries.
Now if Timotheus come, see that he may be with you without fear: for he worketh the work of the Lord, as I also .
Let no man therefore despise him: but conduct him forth in peace, that he may come unto me: for I look for him with the brethren.
As touching brother Apollos, I greatly desired him to come unto you with the brethren: but his will was not at all to come at this time; but he will come when he shall have convenient time.
Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong.
Let all your things be done with charity.
I beseech you, brethren, (ye know the house of Stephanas, that it is the firstfruits of Achaia, and they have addicted themselves to the ministry of the saints,)
That ye submit yourselves unto such, and to every one that helpeth with , and laboureth.
I am glad of the coming of Stephanas and Fortunatus and Achaicus: for that which was lacking on your part they have supplied.
For they have refreshed my spirit and yours: therefore acknowledge ye them that are such.
The churches of Asia salute you. Aquila and Priscilla salute you much in the Lord, with the church that is in their house.
All the brethren greet you. Greet ye one another with an holy kiss.
The salutation of Paul with mine own hand.
If any man love not the Lord Jesus Christ, let him be Anathema Maran-atha.
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ with you.
My love with you all in Christ Jesus. Amen.
