March 24, 2023 :: Evening Prayer
Friday after the Fourth Sunday of Lent
Here beginneth the 17th chapter of Judges.
And there was a man of mount Ephraim, whose name Micah.
Lord, my son.And he said unto his mother, The eleven hundred of silver that were taken from thee, about which thou cursedst, and spakest of also in mine ears, behold, the silver with me; I took it. And his mother said, Blessed of the
Lord from my hand for my son, to make a graven image and a molten image: now therefore I will restore it unto thee.And when he had restored the eleven hundred of silver to his mother, his mother said, I had wholly dedicated the silver unto the
Yet he restored the money unto his mother; and his mother took two hundred of silver, and gave them to the founder, who made thereof a graven image and a molten image: and they were in the house of Micah.
And the man Micah had an house of gods, and made an ephod, and teraphim, and consecrated one of his sons, who became his priest.
In those days no king in Israel, every man did right in his own eyes.
And there was a young man out of Beth-lehem-judah of the family of Judah, who a Levite, and he sojourned there.
And the man departed out of the city from Beth-lehem-judah to sojourn where he could find : and he came to mount Ephraim to the house of Micah, as he journeyed.
And Micah said unto him, Whence comest thou? And he said unto him, I a Levite of Beth-lehem-judah, and I go to sojourn where I may find .
And Micah said unto him, Dwell with me, and be unto me a father and a priest, and I will give thee ten of silver by the year, and a suit of apparel, and thy victuals. So the Levite went in.
And the Levite was content to dwell with the man; and the young man was unto him as one of his sons.
And Micah consecrated the Levite; and the young man became his priest, and was in the house of Micah.
Lord will do me good, seeing I have a Levite to priest.Then said Micah, Now know I that the
Here endeth the first lesson.
Here beginneth the 2nd chapter of 2 Timothy.
Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.
And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.
Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.
No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.
And if a man also strive for masteries, is he not crowned, except he strive lawfully.
The husbandman that laboureth must be first partaker of the fruits.
Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things.
Remember that Jesus Christ of the seed of David was raised from the dead according to my gospel:
Wherein I suffer trouble, as an evil doer, unto bonds; but the word of God is not bound.
Therefore I endure all things for the elect's sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.
a faithful saying: For if we be dead with , we shall also live with :
If we suffer, we shall also reign with : if we deny , he also will deny us:
If we believe not, he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself.
Of these things put in remembrance, charging before the Lord that they strive not about words to no profit, to the subverting of the hearers.
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
But shun profane vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.
And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenæus and Philetus;
Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some.
Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.
But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour.
If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, prepared unto every good work.
Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes.
And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all , apt to teach, patient,
In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;
And they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.
